Tenue Du Jour (#OOTD)

As you may have figured out, I’m in Paris for a bit! I will still be blogging about all of my travels around the world — content, content, content! — but I definitely want to take you guys with me, live, on my sojourn to the French capital. It’s really nothing new: black creatives have headed to Paris for inspiration and to escape f*ckery in the US for decades. (disclaimer: I am in no way comparing myself to geniuses like James Baldwin & Josephine Baker. I’m just saying I happen to be heading on my sojourn to Paris when the clock seems to be winding backwards on race relations in the US… but more on that later. This is a LIGHT post).

Here’s the first “series” you’ll be seeing: Tenue Du Jour. That’s “outfit of the day” in French. Paris is arguably the style capital of the world so from editor meetings in chic cafés to navigating what to wear while bopping around my neighborhood (one that reminds me a lot of my own in Crown Heights, Brooklyn) I’ll keep you guys updated in these quick blogposts.

Éclatez-vous!

Today I had my first appointment while here in Paris, with a videographer from a French publication. It was a coffee meeting and I wanted to look chic and cool and it was in Canal Saint-Martin so I wanted to look dope. Plus, it’s still my first few days here so dressing up still excites me. It’s definitely the start of that crisp fall weather so I broke out a staple: my black cotton turtleneck. Paired it with a femme chiffon floral skort and block heel booties that were comfortable enough to spend a few hours in walking around and exploring the neighborhood and were a “reasonable” daytime height. I added what has been my go-to bag since last year: it’s fun, eclectic and a Mary Poppins type bag that holds everything. In that bag? A new book my mum got for my from Shakespeare & Co. on Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald. For the past few days I’ve looked quite enviously at people reading along the canal… Et voilà! Let me know what you think!

take-away lesson: Remove one thing. Back in NYC I have a plain black suede drawstring pouchette. I would have worn that or plain black chelsea boots. But not bad for a first go!
