My latest Never Date A Traveler podcast is up on iTunes and SoundCloud and this week, I’m chatting about emojis in Nashville. You’ll hear more of what I’m talking about in a later post, but chatting about Nashville and meals had me thinking (and salivating) about the most delicious meal I had while there at Monell’s in Germantown. Someone that I met in Nashville recommended it to me and I couldn’t thank them enough. You see, I was in Nashville for a fitness conference, which is not the most conducive atmosphere to really pig out. But when I’m down south, all I want is hot chicken, biscuits, mash potatoes and other sweet sweet memories — as sweet as the tea — of a Southern childhood that I never had. Monell’s was all this and a basket of steaming buttermilk biscuits.
This restaurant is like being in someone’s dining room. Really, there is a fixed menu, you’re at communal seating of a dining room table, no cell phones and the only rule is that you pass to the left. Monell’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (the Germantown location is open late night) and all meals are a fixed price from $13.95 to $21 plus tax. It’s all you can eat, and trust me, with this menu, that’s quite the bargain. With course after course of yummy fried chicken, mac and cheese, biscuits, mashed potatoes, coming out of the kitchen like at grandma’s house, the hardest thing to remember is to pace yourself.
Germantown is a picturesque neighborhood undergoing quite the revitalization. After such a large meal, I was completely tempted to sit on the porch at Monell’s and swing — ok maybe I did for a minute — but then I took a walk around the neighborhood to walk off all of that food. Guys, if I lived down South, this would be a very different kind of blog… ;).
