The Hippy Van is coming Back!

Road-trip aficionados and nostalgic millennial flower children can rejoice! Volkswagen just re-released the cult favorite van after stopping production in Brazil in 2013 due to the vans failure to meet safety regulations (they stopped making them in Germany in 1979). The updated van will be released at the Consumer Electronics Show in January because, get this: It’s going to be electric with a range of 250 miles per charge (there will be gasoline & diesel versions available)! During an announcement earlier this week, much to fans delight, the Volkswagen development chief Hans-Jakob Neusser cited the commitment to a lot of the original aesthetic design features, calling the original “so iconic” that any attempt at a new model would have to have three “very important” design cues: “First the wide, solid, D-Pillar, second the boxy design of the center section and, thirdly, the front end must have a very short overhang.
