Fast Track: #FollowMeTo Couples Travel Inspiration

With over 3.5 million instagram followers between them, chances are you’ve heard of Russian instagram stars of the #followmeto campaign, and newly weds, Murad Osmann, @muradosmann and Natalia Zakharova, @yourleo. Osmann’s photos take wanderlust to the next level, creating scenes with dreamlike opulence. Their signature: Natalia’s back to the camera, arm outstretched, leading Osmann into one beautiful paradise or another all over the globe. The campaign came about through a comical (and typical) couple’s vacation story. Osmann was busy taking photos and Zakharova, trying to hurry him along, arms stretched back said, “Follow me” and voilá, instagram magic was born. This couldn’t be me. I would crack from the pressure to maintain a perfect manicure. They have been travelling for over 5 years, have done spreads for magazines and in January, released a book as a compilation of these images! I’m definitely ordering one for my coffee table. side bar: I already have the CFDA #Fashion Designers on Instagram book mixed in there with books from Arthur Elgort and Helmut Newton — if that’s not …

Shop Local Saturdays – Brooklyn Flea!

It seems that Spring is finally here to stay in NYC and for a lot of us Brooklynites that means Brooklyn Flea is back outdoors! On Saturdays from 10am – 5pm it’s in Fort Greene at 176 Lafayette and on Sundays it’s in Williamsburg at 50 Kent Ave. With 100 flea vendors and 30 food vendors at it’s peak, this is a great way to spend a Saturday. Last weekend, I went on a furniture hunt with my friend Jennifer and ooed and ahhed at all of the amazing artists. We perused vintage denim jackets & band tees and stocked up on a few vintage gold chains for $10. I got an amazing gold-tone cigarette holder that I’m going to use as a wallet, from Hook and Ladder Antiques. I also fell in love with watercolor-like Polaroid photographs from She Hit Pause Studios and eyed a 1920s armoire from restorer Christina at WhiteWashed Furniture. Follow @shehitpausestudios on instagram. Trust me, hours will pass, it’s the epitome of “the eye must wander.” Also, vendor Avian and John’s …

People of Jerusalem – a Photo Diary

Jerusalem is a mecca where so many different religions intersect and in no way is this more apparent than the people. The old city is divided into pretty distinct quarters, the Armenian Quarter, Christian Quarter, Jewish Quarter and Muslim Quarter, each teeming with life and at times, fraught with tension. And each, attracting millions of religious pilgrims each year. Makes for great people watching. Click through below as I people watch through all four quarters.

“Up in the Air” at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art

Today is First Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum in my hometown and I wanted to highlight an amazing exhibit that went up in March 2015 at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Tom Friedman’s “Up in the Air” installation is a mesmerizing display of 650 small sculptures of everyday items hanging in the Lightfall at the center of the new museum building. In bold, eye-catching colors, of things like a Cross, a white picket fence, bandaids, a dildo, Coors light six-pack, Friedman’s work is a transfixing commentary on consumerism and pop-culture seemingly floating in mid-air. Check out my pictures of the exhibition below and other images of this amazing art museum. There is also another captivating exhibit in their photography pavilion: a selection of the works of Robert Capa.
