It was within that food culture that I found the paradox — to me a bit unsettling — of Singapore. When you visit a city like Singapore, it’s hard not to see the future. The skyscrapers, the sterile cleanliness, extreme efficiency; it definitely has that Jetson-esque vibe….
Then I flash back to what Ivy Singh-Lim of Bollywood Veggies said.
From ski competitions in Afghanistan, mountain climbing through Russian borders to Rivas in the South of France, Gabe lives life on the ultimate #GOALS level. Since founding Black Sheep Coffee in 2013 with friends from university, some of his expeditions have a new purpose: the search for the perfect bean.
While in Lisbon, I stayed at the famed Palacio Belmonte. This place was so hard to leave that I actually ended up spending an extra day in Lisbon with my mom. Check out a small bit of what it was like waking up in the Padre Himalaya suite in the video above and here’s a sneak peak.
It was definitely a milestone birthday as I went to sleep in New York City, woke up in London and was in Porto in time for a delicious Portuguese home-style birthday dinner.
I did notice that all of my friends that called Miami home were incredible, so I knew there had to be more to Miami than just South Beach. In fact, most of my friends that live there always say that they barely go to the beach at all! So on my last trip this February, I decided to “live like a local” under the guidance of some friends from the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.
Anyone who has spoken to me about my travels recently knows that I have a new love affair with Colombia. There will definitely be more posts on the blog coming soon about my amazing adventures in South America this winter. But in the meantime, wet your palates with my guide to Medellín for Fathom! Colombia is having a moment. Between talk of Netflix’s Narcos and Steve Harvey’s unfortunate blunder at the Miss Universe pageant, hardly a day goes by without the Latin American country being referenced. Drug trafficking and beautiful women aside, there is so much more to naturally rich Colombia than pop culture may lead you to believe, including Medellín, a city positioning itself as the next art and design capital of South America.
So Chanel does Havana with their latest resort collection and the Kardashians are the latest in the celeb onslaught heading down to the island of Cuba. Want to plan Cuba for your next vacation? Check out my previous videos on how to get there and more details about planning your trip. Now let’s get down to the nitty gritty. It’s hard to please everyone and Khloé Kardashian just got slammed on her Instagram for posing under a sign that says Fidel and graffiti championing the revolution. Never thought I’d say it, but Obama and Khloé had similar plights, when people slammed him for giving a speech at Plaza de la Revolución in Havana, under an image of Che Guevara. Watch the video for my thoughts on that, the homes and my wrap up to what was an awesome Q&A with you guys!
Here’s part 3 of my Periscope on my trip to Havana, Cuba. I’m talking about watching an arrest, the deal with wifi and digital detox while there, Afro-Cuban population, racism and classicism in Cuba, Cuban-Americans, education and the arts. Subscribe for more!
I had a pretty chill weekend in Nevis and I wrote about it for one of my favorite travel sites, Fathom Way to Go. I’m going to be posting a photo diary from this Nevis trip soon so stay tuned. While I hated waking up at the crack of dawn to see the start of the marathon, it was pretty incredible to see the island waking up and to catch this beautiful shot of Nevis Peak from the beach. Here’s a snippet from the article. Read the rest on Fathom for more about which British Royal, cuisine and the most important thing you should do while in Nevis. There are few places better suited to “getting away from it all” than Nevis. You’ll find the natural beauty of the West Indies, some of the nicest luxury hotels and restaurants in the Caribbean, and absolute discretion — it served as a refuge for one of the most notable members of the British royal family (but more on that later).
