News is being made every minute around the world. Obviously, not all of it pertains to ‘N A Perfect World…. If you have inquiries about ISIS, makes sense NAPW isn’t your first stop. But I have been meaning to highlight some international news that does relate for quite some time.

With my passion for food and ‘Nomads piece about fashion conservation, can’t think of a better place to start than with this article I came cross in the Guardian about recent legislation passed in France forcing big supermarkets to donate unsold food to charities or for animal feed instead of throwing it away. What really struck me was the prevalence of supermarkets not just throwing the surplus food away but dousing it with bleach as to prevent dumpster diving. This reminded me of the scandal a few years ago when a few High street stores were accused of shredding old stock clothes when they threw them away instead of donating them as the homeless or needy population wearing their clothes wasn’t “on brand.”

France has an initiative to halve the amount of food waste by 2025 and the supermarket laws come with others, like education programs about food waste in schools and businesses and removing “best before” labels on fresh food.

As we shop for barbeques with family and friends this weekend, let’s make a conscious effort to only buy what we need. We’re not in the 16th century anymore… overeating isn’t the way to show what a boss you are. 😉

And just for the hell of it, a delicious meal I had at La Durée Soho with my friend Naomi. I had a Bouchée á la Reine with black truffles that doesn’t seem to be on the menu anymore and she had foie gras de canard mi cuit au macaron de saison et son kougloff ladurée.
