7 Locale-Appropriate Looks for Wedding Season

It’s spring time, aka wedding season! If you are anything like me, you’ve probably spent these last two weeks trying to figure out what Festive / Creative Black Tie or Beach Formal means. For some of us, that attire line on a wedding invite is enough to send us into a tail spin; at the very least, it’s eye-roll inducing. So I’ve taken some popular wedding settings and situations and paired them with this season’s hottest finds.

Festive Black Tie

Festive Black Tie, well, it’s hard to ever really know what that means, especially in warmer weather (during the holiday season your best bet is sequins and shine). For an indoor / outdoor wedding in the city, say a beautiful garden space or rooftop, like Long Island City’s The Foundry, play up a nod to spring with this gorgeously embroidered Alice & Olivia gown.

 Black Tie / City Formal

We’re sure you have your go to black gown for occasions like this, but why not mix it up a little bit and borrow a cue from the boys. For this black tie occasion, like a wedding in one of the Plaza Hotel’s iconic ballrooms, you should wear the suit.

Beach Formal

Nothing says summer night like a beach front wedding. I love a beautiful New England beach front wedding, say in the Cape or Martha’s Vineyard. Channel the Victorian trend with this Self Portrait paired with the it accessory of the moment, a choker!

Semi-Formal on a Rustic Farm

I love New England barn style weddings, but they definitely pose a conundrum at times. You don’t want to be too overdone, but it is a wedding after all. You also want to be able to frolic, naturally. Well, the 90s are back and no one does a slip dress better than king of the 90s, Calvin Klein. Have a little fun with the rustic nature of your surroundings and stay on trend in this Calvin Klein Collection dress straight from the SS16 runway.

Cocktail attire – Seaside Wedding

Destination seaside wedding? St. Tropez? Maybe Ravello? We have you covered. This look is fun and euro-chic. Dance the night away in this fun number and layer on the accessories — but don’t take away too much attention from the bride ;).

“Wear whatever you want!” – City Hall style

Maybe your bestie and her love went to City Hall and they’re having “just a friends and family dinner and party afterward.” She says, “wear whatever you want!” Don’t worry, I got you.

Formal Attire – Destination Wedding

We had to throw this one in. One of fashion’s ruling ladies, Diane von Furstenberg hit the jackpot with her signature wrap dresses. This amazing jersey gown is effortlessly elegant and is absolutely perfect for travel due to it’s jersey material. It’s become a must for our destination packing. Add a brooch of you really want to jazz it up – or two or three!
