When I pulled up to Second Home Guesthouse on a February evening this winter and went through the heavy gilded bronze doors, I immediately felt the impression that this property would make on me. The spotlights guiding you through the property at night gave a small hint of the Xanadu vibe that Second Home conveys. Each night I fell asleep to the crashing waves of the Pacific ocean right outside of my balcony.

Located in the bohemian Barranco neighborhood of Lima, Peru, Second Home Guesthouse is on the property of Lima artist, Victor Delfin who’s sculptures can be seen throughout the city. Delfin’s workshop is on the property and tours and meetings are available with the artist if arranged in advanced with his daughter and the innkeeper, Lilian Delfin. Second Home was the perfect bed & breakfast to welcome me into Lima. Exhausted from traveling through Colombia, it was definitely nice to settle into a cozy home away from home for the first few days.
There’s a beautiful art deco splendor to the property and with sculptures and art installations dotting the grounds, it leaves you wanting to check out every area . Guests have the option of staying in the beautiful main guesthouse or the cliffside building as I did in Mirador 01 which could be had at around $135/ night. The perfect amount of space and a private balcony as well as a bathtub with ocean views made for a very relaxing first stay.
The whimsical property design, the refreshing pool, Pacific ocean views and amazing locations (minutes walking from amazing restaurants and cultural attractions like Mario Testino’s museum) make Second Home Guesthouse a no-brainer. See images from my time at the property below (and in the banner above).

Wonderful view to wake up to everyday.

Breakfast is included with your stay. You’ll get a wonderful sampling of local fruits as well as Western breakfast staples like eggs, yogurt and granola.

I found the many tranquil nooks around the property ideal for relaxing and meditating.
