I love to travel on my birthday — more on that later — but a birthday well spent, to me, is spent somewhere I’ve never been before experiencing something completely new. This year, days away with no concrete plans, I picked Rincón on a whim and started planning my trip. Having been to San Juan a few times, I was excited to explore a different side of Puerto Rico and my only prerequisites were sun, fun and surf. Rincón is a big expat town and after putting out a few feelers, I was able to secure a spot at Casa de Rincón’s ocean terrace apartment.
It almost seemed criminal booking this as a solo trip with all of the space. Three bedrooms, two bathroom, a huge outdoor rooftop space, access to a pool, ocean views and steps away from Sandy Beach and one of Rincón’s most popular nightlife spots. The space was the perfect combo of a homey beach house. And with little touches like a washer-dryer, skimboard and a blender, I easily slipped into feeling like it was home. For $225/ night and sleeping up to 6 people, it’s hard to find a better deal for such quality in this little slice of paradise and in a great area in Rincón, Puntas. This was exactly the escape I needed to rejuvenate. Don’t wait for winter season, book now!

view from my front terrace (yes, I had multiple).
I loved the art work on the walls, beautiful, colorful, ripe for selfies! And my hosts had a full book to guide me, from top vegan restaurants in the area to the best surfing lessons!
