I love London. Maybe I see the city through rose-colored lens because whenever I’m there it’s all roses (those beautiful English gardens!) and sunshine — at least for a few days…. While I wouldn’t say I’m an Anglophile, I did grow up on British t.v. and have visions of Hyacinth Bucket’s (pronounced bouquet) candle light suppers flickering in my head. This past London Fashion Week, I ventured outside of my usual haunt of Notting Hill / Westbourne Park and got quite posh in Chelsea.

“Darling, we’re not in Shoreditch anymore…” Leisurely Italian lunches with exes to late night oysters and champagne with Kuwaiti oil tycoons (more on that in a different post), days shopping on Kings Road. I definitely took in all Chelsea had to offer. But my favorite part, is where I laid my head, Draycott Hotel. Situated on Cadogan Gardens, this boutique hotel, built in 1890 offers English elegance at it’s finest. The rich history of the property and excellent service makes you feel like you’re at a friend’s home rather than a hotel. And treat it like a home I did! Often, I found myself rushing home to make 4pm tea and biscuits in the drawing room overlooking the gardens where I’d chat travel and adventure with my fellow hotel guests. The conversation often went into 6pm champagne time. Unfortunately I never was in for 9.30pm hot chocolate, but what a nice touch!

I was right across from the C.S. Lewis suite on the top floor in the Gielgud suite named for the great Shakespearean actor and director John Gielgud who was knighted in 1953. Throughout the hotel and each room is adorned with Edwardian antiques reflective of their theater namesakes. There is even an antique guest entry tracker in the lobby! This 5-star hotel has 35 suites and rooms and have hosted people like Pierce Brosnan and the Queen of Denmark! Even the cute Draycott teddy bear is gushing with character.

A great library, beautiful desk, comfy bed, and beautiful natural light in the bathroom. Whether it was a sunny London day or raining buckets, I barely wanted to leave the Draycott. Visiting for a weekend or a month, check in and check out here.
