Cooking Lesson – Jamaican Feast Courtesy of Prospect Plantation

While in Negril and Montego Bay this August I took a cooking lesson at Prospect Plantation in Ochos Rios with Chef Adra Hillock. I can now say I know how to clean callaloo and jerk like a pro. Check out pictures and video from the day below as well as the recipes for you to prepare your own Jamaican feast at home – watch carefully for Chef Hillock’s little secret!

Perfect Stays – Efendi hotel and Akko, Israel

The city does draw history buffs but thanks to Akko resident and ambassador, Chef Uri Jeremias, Akko has fast become a global foodie destination as well. While I was in Tel Aviv, countless people told me, I “could not leave Israel without visiting Uri Buri,” Jeremias’s restaurant right on the port in an old ottoman building with the decor of a Bedouin tent; hopefully while there I would meet it’s eccentric proprietor of 27 years, Uri Jeremias. “You can’t miss him, he looks like Santa Claus.” Without a doubt, this is the best seafood you will have in Israel.

Most people are familiar with world-renowned culinary “experience” Michelin-starred restaurants like Noma in Denmark or San Sebastián in Spain where you are prepared to spend a good portion of your paycheck and join a months long waiting list. But did you know that if you happen to be in Hong Kong or Singapore, a random late night Dim Sum craving could be Michelin star rated fare as well?

The Really Forbidden Fruit

I can’t think of a better way to get me amped to try something than to tell me not to and with the No Durian signs populating the mass transit and hotels in Singapore, I was pretty curious about the fruit. I was excited when Iris, my guide said we were going to the Geylang area, Singapore’s red light district (which is as harmless of a red light district as I’ve ever seen), to try Durian from a roadside vendor.
