I want more Americans (that can afford it — that’s another issue) to have passports and to encourage cultural exchanges that will lead to less insular thinking or misunderstandings. I think it’s important to put a brown girl’s point of view on this.
Have you ever heard of noble rot? Maybe by it’s more elegant name, botrytis? It’s a form of grey fungus affecting wine grapes that has to be timed just right to develop a delicious sweet wine like the internationally renowned French sauterne.
Through asking people, reading travel sites, this is the time of year when I figure out what places I’ll hit up on my ever expanding travel bucket list. One of my favorite resources, the New York Times’ annual 52 Places to Go in 2017.
He told me I could hold is knife if I felt threatened… it was pretty cool an intense Swiss Army knife. And I learned a fun tidbit from him, He was stationed at an embassy but the American embassy didn’t want the Swiss guard anymore because they found one smoking pot on the job and another peeing in the bushes, creating a diplomatic problem.
I encourage people of color to go out and see the world. That is the only way stereotypes can be broken. I’ve often found myself gaining access to places and situations that I know I wouldn’t necessarily have had access to if I were white. I take pride in this and happily eat up all of these moments. This all being said, here are 10 places I’ve traveled that I was particularly well received as an African American woman.

This summer, traveling around with my Fujifilm Instax, I absolutely fell in love. There’s something to be said about waiting for the right moment.
